Artist's Statement

I've always enjoyed making art since I was a child, and it is a hobby that I continue to be passionate about. My art style is influenced by anime and animated films that I watch, and I seek to tell stories about myself and my identity through my art. When I first thought about the word respiration, I thought of the concept of shared breath through our ancestry. Our parents breathed life into us, which was passed on from their parents, and so forth. Additionally, I thought about how we are able to breathe and respire from the oxygen that plants produce, which combined with the former idea, led to the concept behind the piece I submitted for the project. My ancestry is intimately connected with vegetation, as my grandparents are Chinese farmers and my parents are avid gardeners. Like them, I have my small, but slowly growing, plant collection. Like with breath, this love for growing vegetation was passed through different generations, and this is represented in these three digital pieces.
