Artist's Statement
I started photography in August of 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. I have always admired fashion photography and modeling, but I turned to photography to create my own images of beauty and explore the other side of the craft. My medium of art is fashion photography. As a Black female photographer, I find the majority of my inspiration from other Black female photographers.
Respiration reflects perpetual growth. When I look at my art and approach a new project, I acknowledge my past work as the constituents of my art today. My art reflects respiration through each project, it is an echo of my journey in life as well as a photographer. Back in 2021, the fall editorial shoot with my dear friend, Gabrijela, where I styled and did makeup, was to focus on neutral colors and taking in from the fall leaves. Two years later, my skills and artistry have flourished and I chose to do another shoot with G incorporating a new environment for me which is studio work. This shoot creates images more refined, and highlights simplicity to focus on her beauty. This shot was mostly to push my comfort level and grow my knowledge working indoors. My work in whole toys with color and all of the vibrancy that Black and Brown people bring to this world. My hope for the future is to work on creative teams for magazines and creatives like i-D, Laquan Smith, Mowalola and Vogue.
